The consultation sounds important?

It's our chance to get to know each other and for me to make sure I interpret your photographic direction correctly. We will decide on a package of photography for the big day and also work out a final price for all the work. There will be no hidden extras after that and never any hard selling. It's your wedding, your budget and your choice.

Is the visit to the venue important?

Yes, it is. I will discuss all your requirements with you at the consultation for style and location of photography, but nothing beats us visiting the venue together and looking for the best locations for special photos. I will be visiting the venue in advance of the ceremony regardless, in order to deliver the highest quality results. (Distance may prevent this in rare circumstances - it depends where the wedding is.)

What are your payment terms?

I take a 20% deposit at or shortly after the initial consultation, then the balance 60 days before the wedding, which avoids unnecessary money handling on the big day.

Do we need to sign a contract?

Yes, this protects both parties. I provide a contract for signing at the consultation, which clearly explains the terms and conditions of business. I am happy to provide this in advance if you would prefer.

Can we get the photos on a disc?

All my packages include a DVD of the images.

None of your packages include a book or album, why not?

Nowadays most couples request a copy of the images on a DVD and I happily provide this with all my wedding packages. The truth is that almost all come back to me at a later date for an album as well, so I advise you to pencil in an album into your budget regardless of when you wish to purchase one. My prices are clearly listed and their quality is exceptional. I have samples which I will show at our consultation.

How much are the prints for friends and family?

I have a list of prices for many sizes of prints, framed prints and canvas wraps. I will provide this list at the consultation for you to see. If you have looked around at other prices, you will be very pleasantly surprised at the fairness of my pricing.

How long will delivery of the wedding book/album take?

Normally it takes 4-5 weeks from the order being placed. Orders at Xmas time may need to be in earlier than that to ensure delivery before Xmas day.

What extra costs are there?

Just reimbursement for any extra expenses I will incur; e.g. travel to further afield venues, overnight stays, fair prices for anything extra you would like on the day (such as extended coverage) or the run up to the wedding, such as pre-wedding portraits. My album prices are based on 30 DPS (double-page-spreads - i.e. 60 pages) Any additional pages required will be £15 per DPS. Everything will be discussed at the consultation and the final quote will be decided there and then. Nothing extra after that. Never any hard sell.

How do we pay you?

Cash or cheque or direct payment into my business account, which can be simply done via internet banking.

Why hire a professional photographer?

Well, you may think you are saving some money by letting a family member or friend take the responsibility, but it is a big risk to take. Make sure to ask them when they will consult you to find out exactly where and when they need to be on the day, and who to photograph, and that they have spoken to the wedding officiator to see where and when photographs are allowed during the ceremony, and that they have scouted out all the locations to size up the good and bad weather options for photos. They might want to visit the venues with you in advance, like I do. Then ask them if they have all the right equipment, including a backup camera, cards, flashes, tripods, reflectors, lenses, batteries and that they know how to use them backwards - you don't want that big moment missed after all - dark churches, small rooms and large spaces can all be tricky places to photograph. Check with them that they are experts in post-processing the photos and how they will make all the images available to all family and friends and ask which type of book or album they will provide you. Can they really afford the week of work it will take to pull all this together? I have taken all these things into consideration even before I meet you and our initial consultation will give me another list of things to think about and check out before the big day. And don't forget, that this is your big day. I've been there, it is amazing. I had never been so nervous and excited at the same time. Stick with a professional photographer who understands how important those memories will become and is dedicated to and capable of delivering the best results.
